SELECT
The CHL Select schedule has been finalized and will be published this week. To determine interest in Select, there will be ice slots at Iceland (Virginia Beach) on the following dates:
Saturday August 28th 7:30am-8:30am-SQUIRTS
Saturday August 28th 5:30pm-6:30pm-PEEWEES
Sunday August 29th 10:30am-11:30am-BANTAMS
Sunday August 29th 11:45am-12:45pm-MIDGETS
The cost is $8.00 per player.
Players from HRYHA and PYHA are invited to attend.
Select teams will be offered at Squirt, PeeWee, Bantam, and Midget levels. The select teams will draw from both PYHA and VA Beach registered house players.
Select teams play at a higher level of competition than our normal house league. They will play approximately 12 games in the Carolinas Hockey League and perhaps a couple of tournaments elsewhere. There will be additional practices (these times and days will vary), and there will be an additional fee charged for those who chose to play select.

2010-2011 Squirt Select Program
Objective: To offer an enjoyable environment for parents and players that provides advanced competition and learning opportunities to qualified Elementary Level players of the EVHL without the financial or travel requirements of travel hockey. We view this program as a possible feeder for those parents and children who may have a future interest in either Squirt or Pee Wee travel hockey. A strong Squirt and/or Mite Select program is key to developing the new travel organization formed between the Peninsula Prowl and HRYHA. Due to the increased competition that this team will face, equal playing time for all players is not guaranteed. The head coach will make decisions that he feels gives the team the best opportunity to win.
Players: The team will be made up of players selected through tryouts or invitation. The goal is to have 9 forwards, 4 or 5 defensemen and 1 goalie.
Coaches: The team will be coached by Shawn Vuz (Level 5 certified) of the Prowl. Shawn will be helped by Paul Froehlich (Jr. Admirals) and Jim Clark (Prowl). The assistant coaches are subject to change. The team manager will be named at a later date.
Voluntary Pre-Tryout Warm up: Sometime in August, we will have 2 voluntary sessions (1 at Iceland and 1 at Iceplex) to help players get ready for tryouts after having the summer off. The cost for this will be determined when the dates are announced and will be in addition to the tryout fee.
Tryouts: Mandatory tryout will be held in either late August or early September. Tryout fee is $20.00.
Games: The team will play approximately sixteen to twenty games consisting of league and tournament play.
League Play: The team will play a Carolinas Hockey League Select schedule consisting of twelve games. The CHL schedule consists of four weekends each consisting of three games. Three weekends of travel will be required and one weekend will be held at Iceland.
Cost: The cost of the program should run between $450-$600, depending upon the tournament schedule and number of players. The exact dollar amount will be determined after the team and schedule are finalized.
Tournaments: The team will play two tournaments. The selected tournaments will be within a reasonable drive of Hampton Roads while offering appropriate level of competition. The tournaments will be scheduled on holiday weekends so as not to interfere with the EVHL schedule. The preferred weekend tournaments will be over Thanksgiving, Christmas, MLK weekend, Presidents ’ Day Weekend and/or St. Patrick ’s Day.
Practices: The team will practice approximately fourteen to sixteen times from late August through March. Our goal is to practice every other week on a weekend morning that does not conflict with the EVHL House schedule. The practices will be split between Iceland and Iceplex and take place on weekends to reduce commuting issues and conflicts with school. Attendance at all practices is expected. If a player misses practice for any reason other than an emergency; playing time may be reduced.
Jerseys: Those who are selected for the team will need to have home and away Jr. Admiral jerseys, which can be purchased after tryout results are announced. Cost will be approximately $100.
